Coggins and Health Certificates

A health certificate is required for interstate travel and involves an examination to ensure your horse is healthy for transport and does not have an apparent contagious disease.  A Coggins test is taken to ensure that a horse does not have Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA). EIA testing and health certificate requirements vary by state, so it is important to know your state’s requirements.  Both Florida and New York require a negative Coggins test performed within the last 12 months for within state travel and showing.  Find out more about EIA and regulation at: http://asci.uvm.edu/equine/law/horselaw/eia.htm
